2 Alarm First Due Fire
Tuesday, March 6, 2012
-
At approximately 0330hours units were alerted for a reported deck on fire in the 13-04 box, Elizabeth's Landing on Cutler Harbor.  E131 responded 7w1, and Chief 13 also responded.  While in route, Fire Alarm notified units that they were receiving multiple calls and that the fire was extending into the dwelling.  Upon arrival Chief 13 reported he had a 2 story end of group town house dweliing with heavy fire showing from the original fire building and the immediate adjacent dwelling and called for the 2nd Alarm.  E131 laid thier line at the hydrant and set up for Fire Attack.  Chief 11 arrived and was made Fire Attack, with E131's crew.  The fire spread rapidly and the original fire building was fully involved with heavy fire on the first and second floor of the 2nd dwelling.  E11 covered the hydrant only to find that the hydrant was dead and had to hook to the secondary supply source at the next court.  Chief 13 assisted in hand jacking the 4" to that hydrant.  The crews entered the second dwelling and knocked the fire on the first and second floors.  Meanwhile, the first due truck company, QNT23, laddered the structure and E10 set up for deck gun ops.

Thankfully, all occupants escaped without injury and there were no firefighter injuries battling the blaze!

It took crews about an hour to place the fire under control, but units remained on scene until about 0930hours.

Life Member Purchases Tiller Truck for training

Friday, February 3, 2012
-
On January 21, 2012, Life Member Russell Schlick flew to Reno Nevada to purchase a 1986 Seagrave Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder truck.  This truck is the 3rd in Russell's collection of antique fire equipment.  The truck was recently placed out of service to make room for a new truck by the City of Reno.  With RBVFC anxiously awaiting delivery of our own TDA, Russell decided he wanted to purchase a used TDA so that the Pump Operators at the Beach could use it for training purposes.  The Driver's have already begun Drivers training on the truck, led by Station Driving Instructor Assistant Chief Ed Kiser.  The drivier's will acquire their "A" license as required by the Company, and be ready to drive the new truck when it comes in in May.

Many THANKS to Russell for helping the company be as prepared as we can be when TRUCK 13 is placed in service!
