Today marks the 92nd Anniversary of the Line of Duty Death of Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company Chief James E. Barton.
Chief Barton was killed responding to a reported house fire when the apparatus he was responding on overturned. The driver attempted to avoid a road scraper and overturned in the soft dirt on Tick Neck Road.
Anne Arundel County Fire Department members, family and friends will remember Chief Barton at a memorial service and wreath-laying today at 10:00 a.m.
